On a walk around a local nature reserve with some visiting friends, I wondered how it could be that I have lived in this area for over 40 years but never been to that particular spot of heaven sent beauty before. There we were all togged up in walking boots, comfy trousers and jackets. No one needed a map, the reserve was well maintained, sign pointing to the various areas of interest were very clearly marked, to this hide to see wading birds, that hide to see more garden species etc. None of it was overly developed so that the rustic beauty was ever lost.
We did saw many garden birds I’ve not spotted in my own very rural garden. It was truly inspirational and I learned a great deal from these pals who have walked there for years. I noted leaflets in the hides – all applicaion forms to become members of the local wild life observation group.
