The Top Gifts For Kids Over The Decades Part 1…

It is always interesting to look back in history to see what the top gifts for kids have been.  Let’s take a look now back over the years to see what was popular and when…

1910s – Teddy bears!  Teddy Bears were named after Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt, when he refused to shoot a tied up black bear on a hunting trip.  When a New York shop keeper heard the story, his wife made a stuffed toy “Teddy’s Bear” and put it in the shop window and it sparked almost immediate customer interest!

1920s – YoYo!  Who knew the yoyo went back to the 1920s?  It actually was inspired by an ancient invention going back to China circa 1000BC…

1930s – Shirley Temple Doll!  America’s favourite child star from the movie “Bright Eyes” was a hit doll in 1934 – the dolls made a reported $45 million over the 7 years they were in production!

1940s – Slinky!  The cheap and funny toy launched in 1945 – it was an accidental invention you know!  Apparently a mechanical engineer called Richard James accidentally knocked over some ship springs he was working with and they “walked” down stairs instead of fell.

1950s – Mr Potato Head!  Allegedly invented because the inventor’s children didn’t want to eat their vegetables, instead they’d rather play with them!
