After a recent very hectic whirl of holidays with some child relations, I had been expecting to look like the mum and dad of the said children -jaded and exhausted! I had been warned that that it would be one long round of bickering and irritations all round.
Prior to the visit I dug out all the sensible and reasonably grown up games I had in the garage – board games, construction sets, quizzes. These are mainly left overs from when my own younger daughter was growing up thirty ago -but the joy on the faces of the new wave of youngster in my midst was priceless. The gasps of joy when each old relic was produced was reward itself. Especially when the Operation game came out, complete with a new pack of batteries! There wasn’t awhine or whimper, or verbal fisticuff all week. They were endlessly enthalled. A triumph for Age over Boaredom.
